ROLM changed the way military computing was done; they obtained a license for the general purpose Data General Nova and engineered a compatible, ruggedized military version. This meant quicker development of new models and much more available software. The ROLM 1602 was used by all branches of the U.S. military in applications like electronic warfare, missile targeting, and intelligence gathering.
