Curator Notes
Engineer George Julius, working out of Sydney, Australia, pioneered the design of automatic totalisators. These very large machines incorporated mechanical componentss to estimate betting odds at racetracks. The machine this adder came from was installed near Melbourne and incorporated 50 adders to calculate totals for 24 horses and grand totals for both win and place bets.
