This is an air filter in a square particle board frame. The actually filter behind aluminum grating appears to be styrofoam.
"SCAN TESTED" is printed in big red letters on two sides of the frame. The printed label also says 30 CFM, delta P (pressure?) of .96, and DOP PEN of .004%
