Physical object


The unit is an IBM 7503 card reader for the IBM 7030 Stretch computer. The input stack is on the front of the unit at the top and in the middle. The control panel is to the right of the input stack and includes both buttons (e.g., "Power On") and indicator lights (e.g., "Read Check"). Above the control panel is an alignment tray to align the card before they are placed in the input stack. The output stack is on top of the unit in the center. There is a counter in a window to the right of the output stack.

A property identification card is affixed on the right side of the unit near the top. It is from a GSA auction sale and reads "GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION - REGION 9 - PROPERTY MANAGEMENT AND DISPOSAL SERVICE." The object is labeled as "Item No.: 4, Sale No.: 71-79, and Description: Card Reader 7503, Quantity: 1, Unit: Each, and Bid Opening Date: 2-5-71."
