The Adele Goldberg papers consist of Goldberg’s working files related to the development and licensing of Smalltalk, a programming language she co-developed at Xerox PARC, plus periodicals, books, manuals, conference material, and reports related to object-oriented programming and other computer science topics Goldberg was interested or involved in. The collection also contains videotapes of some of Goldberg’s public talks. Records date from 1973 to 2010, with the bulk of material from 1973 to 1998.
These folders contain a preliminary edition of the book titled "Smalltalk: Dreams and Schemes" by Adele Goldberg, David Robson, and Larry Tesler -- along with correspondence and drafts relating to its production and revision. Some of the material in these folders came from two binders labeled "Smalltalk-80 Dreams." This book eventually became 3 published Smalltalk books, which subsequently formed the basis for much of the legal disclosure in the copyright infringement lawsuit that Apple Computer, Inc. filed in 1988 against Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard.
These folders also include an undated issue of "Focus on ODBMS," an anthology of articles that previously appeared in "Journal of Object-Oriented Programming," "Object" magazine, and "Hotline on Object-Oriented Technology."
These folders include "XE Design Rationale: Clu Revisited" by Hirvisalo et. al; "Client/Server Development Tools: The Next Generation" by Wessels, Arnold & Henderson; "Administrative Control in the Shipyard" by Trygve Reenskaug; "Planning the Software Industrial Revolution" by Brad J. Cox; "Programme of Research on Open Systems Training: Report of the Study on Testing for Open Distributed Processing"; and a collection of articles related to the Fujitsu FACOM VP supercomputer.
Includes overviews of the startup software company, World Class Objects, and correspondence regarding a relationship between ParcPlace Systems and World Class Objects.
