Glenn Tokunaga has spent the last 18 years of his career at Yahoo (as of 2017). His role throughout that time has been part of the corporate marketing team, primarily focused on graphic design. This position provided a very interesting perspective on the evolution of Yahoo over nearly two decades. He saw it grow from a small, fast-moving, try anything Silicon Valley startup, through multiple CEO’s and changes in strategy, to finally being purchased by Verizon, one of the country’s largest corporations.
Since he held a corporate marketing position, he was not as directly affected by the frequent reorganizations. However, with each shift in strategy, he had to work with the new teams to continue to provide a coherent picture of Yahoo to the market. As a result, he is able to offer a relatively dispassionate and coherent view of the internal workings of the company.
