Description
David Solomont is the founder of Business and Professional Software, Inc., an early entrant into the personal computing software market, and a software and Internet company investor. He began working with computers as an undergraduate at Tufts University in the early 1970s. After attending MIT’s Sloan School, Solomont’s company developed graphics software for the Apple II, desgined to be used in conjunction with spreadsheets. This was marketed by Apple as Apple Business Graphics. Starting around 1984, Solomont’s BPS, Inc. introduced a series of presentation software products for Apple computers and for MS-DOS, including Overhead Express and 35mm Express. BPS, Inc. competed in the presentation software market until the mid 1990s, when Solomont moved into angel and early stage investing in software and Internet firms. This oral history of Solomont concentrates on his experiences with the personal computing software industry, most especially presentation software. It also details the Massachusetts community engaged with personal computers and software.
