[This oral history is one of seven recorded in December 2014 with former leaders in the Japanese semiconductor industry. ]
Sasaki-san was born in 1936 and earned a masters degree in electrical engineering from Tokyo University in 1961 whereupon he joined NEC to start a long and successful career in the semiconductor industry. Throughout his career, he held many senior management positions including Chairman of the Board from 1999-2009. He has been honored with more than a dozen awards from several different countries. Sasaki-san’s influence was also felt in easing tensions between the US and Japan during their semiconductor trade dispute in the 1980’s.
