Massimo Banzi was one of the co-creators of the Arduino microcontroller hardware/software ecosystem, which, at the time of this interview, had recently celebrated its ten-year anniversary. In this interview, he discusses how the Arduino project grew out of work done at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in northwest Italy. Besides the history of the Arduino project, Mr. Banzi discusses the differences between the US and European communities that adopted the Arduino, STEM education, the Maker movement, building an open-source community, and his hopes for the future of Arduino.
