Mattson, Brad S. SEMI oral history

Mattson’s professional career began in 1976 when he joined Applied Materials, where he served in various technical and marketing positions, including product manager, Etch Division and product manager, CVD Division. From 1981 to 1983, he served as vice president of the plasma systems group of LFE in Massachusetts. In 1983, Mattson established Novellus Systems and served as chairman and CEO until 1988, when he retired to take a sabbatical. A year later, he launched Mattson Technology where he served as chairman and CEO, taking the company public in 1995. He retired from Mattson Technology in 2001 and served as an advisor until 2003. Mattson, who holds 12 patents, was elected to the SEMI board of directors in 1996. He earned a Bachelor of Science in aeronautics from San Jose State University in 1976, and an MBA in finance from Santa Clara University in 1989.
