Sekiya, Ken (Kenichi) SEMI oral history

Ken (Kenichi) Sekiya has spent his entire career at Disco, having joined the company in 1960 (when it was known as Dai-Ichi Seitosho Co. Ltd). He was elected to the board of directors in 1963, became executive director in 1964, executive vice president in 1970 and company president in 1985. In 1998, he was appointed chairman, president and CEO. In June 2001, he gave up the president's title, retaining his roles as chairman and CEO. In 1994, Sekiya was honored by Japan's Science and Technology Agency for his dedication to the development of technology in Japan. In April 1997, he was awarded a Blue Ribbon Medal of Merit from the Emperor of Japan. Sekiya earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Keio University.
