Uchida, Dennis (Dennosuke) SEMI oral history

Dennosuke (Dennis) Uchida graduated from Kyoto University in 1958 and subsequently joined Sumitomo Corporation, where he was involved with the import and export of telecommunications and other equipment. His first overseas assignment was to Burma from 1961-62. Between 1969 and 1978, Uchida was assigned to the Sumitomo New York office where he was in charge of the electrical and electronics department, which included semiconductor manufacturing equipment. He was named president of Sumisho Electronic Systems in 1980, a Sumitomo subsidiary company dedicated to the import of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. In 1988, Uchida became responsible for the joint venture Sumitomo GCA Corporation, after which he was appointed president of General Signal Japan. Uchida joined SEMI as president of Japan operations in October 1994, and retired from that role in 2005. He currently serves as a senior advisor to the president and CEO, SEMI HQ.
