Maruyama, Toshio oral history

Mr. Maruyama was born in northern Japan and after graduating from university, he joined the company, Takeda Riken, as an electronic design engineer. At the time of this interview, he was chairman of the succeeding company, Advantest. He has been with this same company for 41 years. Starting as a design engineer, he later became an applications engineer and moved to the US to help launch the company’s operations in this country. After 12 years, me moved back to Japan and later became company president and now chairman Throughout this 41-year career, Maruyama has been involved in automatic test equipment (ATE) for the electronics industry, which encompasses virtually the whole history of this technology. During this interview, Maruyama discusses the many technological and architectural changes made to test equipment during his career. He also discusses the differences between working with American vs. Japanese customers and what he learned from those American customers.
