Katashiba, Ken oral history

Mr. Katashiba was born in Tokyo in 1940. He spent part of his early childhood in the countryside during the war, but afterwards, he returned to Tokyo where he was exposed to English early on as a result of the American occupation. After attending universities in both the US and Japan, he had a long and distinguished career. Although he spent a few years working with Control Data in Minnesota, he worked primarily for Fujitsu in various capacities and organizations, often playing an interface and coordination between Japan and the US. This included working very closely with both Amdahl and Sun Microsystems. His work with Sun was particularly important in helping Fujitsu to win and successfully execute the design of the first integrated implementation of the SPARC processor. He retired from Fujitsu in 2005.
