Description

"Motorola's 32-bit microprocessor, the 68030, packs 300,000 transistors on its surface in order to decrease system cost and increase performance. Nicknamed 'oh thirty,' the processor incorporates on-chip caches for both data and instructions, Harvard-style architecture and dual modes of address. These features allow the 030 to double the performance of industry's previous performance leader and most widely used 32-bit chip, Motorola's 68020. the 030 maintains compatibility with the 68000 family, a microprocessor line with over 10 million installed units and the industry's largest 32-bit software ($2 billion) and hardware ($88 billion) base.
