Description

Control panel for the Film Input to Digital Automatic Computer (FIDAC). It is a rectangular box with a sloping front panel. There are two joy sticks labeled bios and joy stick, the latter has two sliding potentiometers. There are seven lighted pushbuttons labeled FIDAC, END, CHECK SETTING, READ SPOT, COMP REQ, DISPLAY OFF, and RESET. There are 16 toggle switches, some are labeled. There are two switches with no light and one light with no switch. There are two rotary potentiometers labled X POS and Y POS. Attached at the rear is a large cluster of associated cables.

FIDAC is a high-speed flying-spot scanner for on-line input of digitized pictorial data into a computer's memory. Designed in 1965 for chromosome research by Robert Ledley, Professor of Physiology and Biophysics and Professor of Radiology at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
