The proto board consists of ten rows of holes arrange in two groups of 5. The groups are seperated by 0.300". That makes it possible to plug a commercially available integrated circuit (IC) into the proto board. A set of such ICs are provided that implement logic functions such as AND gates, OR gates and Flip-Flops. Using jumper wires the pins of the logic IC can be connected to the other functions on the work surface to understand how the logic IC operates.
