"In recent years there has been a decline in U.S. industrial competitiveness. CALS (Computer-Aided Logistics Support) is a DoD strategy to improve productivity and reduce costs. The CALS initiative aims at making the transition from paper-intensive, non-integrated product design, manufacturing and support to a highly integrated mode of operation. By focusing on prime contractors and their suppliers in the produrement of new weapon systems, CALS is encouraging productivity-investement throughout all of U.S. industry.

This seminar will examine the issues motivating the CLAS initiative and discuss how CALS principles were used to successfully develop one of America's most technologically sophisitcated computer systems. John Manzo will review the benefits and leassons learned. He will then recommend how viewers cna help their companies prepare for - and get the most our of - CALS approach to meeting the productivity challenge of the 1990s."
