Richard (Rich) Previte was born in Boston, MA and moved to Fresno CA as a teenager. He graduated with a degree in business from San Jose State University and received a commission in the U. S. Army as a finance officer in 1958. He joined the Western Development Laboratory of Philco Corporation as financial analyst and was assigned to the General Microelectronics (GME) semiconductor acquisition after WDL was purchased the Ford Motor company. In 1969 Rich joined Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) as the 12th employee and Director of Finance where he reported to the CEO, W. J. (Jerry) Sanders. He remained with AMD for 30 years in roles from Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, and COO. He served as President and a board member from 1990 to 1999. After retiring in 2000, he consulted on the spinout of AMD’s non-volatile memory business, as Spansion, and the wafer fabrication operations that eventually became Global Foundries.
