"Incredible change has taken place in the electronic industry in recent years. Violenttechnology change, market expansion, the emergence of Japan Inc., price erosion, etc. These changes and their effect on Digital's approach to the electronic printer business will be reviewed.

The data processing and publishing industries have been seprated by important matters such as print resolution/quality; economic transmission, manipulation, and storage of complex images; color rendition/quality; throughout and output finishing requirements; etc. The technologic basis for thisseparation is fast disappearing; and Digital, because of its premier position in networked systems, is perfectly positioned to exploit this opportunity to put optimum degree of publishing power in the hands of all those we need it. The strategy for accomplishing this will be presented."
