This publication is a collection of essays written by John Mallinson. Each essay discusses a specific aspect of Dr. Mallinson's life. The publication is divided in two parts: the first is titled "About me," the second is titled "About my family."Extract from John Mallinson's Foreword:
"This book contains a collection of essays that I have written in the hope that you, the reader, will find them both amusing and interesting. It can only be considered as my Partial Memoires. Many large periods of my life are not addressed because, in the main, they strike me as being too tedious to be of general interest.
Additionally, I have decided not to write about my four marriages even though I think many would find the subject interesting and, perhaps, even fascinating. It seems to me that a full account of the topic could hardly fail to distress some of the living, in particular my daughters.
Most of the material is previously unpublished. “My Biography” and “My Swansong” were published previously by the IEEE and “Publish or Perish” by Academic Press. “Nocturnal Goings on at University College 58 years Ago” is due to appear in University College Record, 2011. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my wife, Phebe, and my good friend Jerry Miller for all the time they have spent improving my essays. Also, I am especially indebted to Jerry for his expertise in the layout of all the text, pictures and diagrams."
