The new age of data is all about making new, meaningful connections, often with never-before-seen data. While this “new normal” promises to create tremendous value, delivering on the promise is massively non-trivial. Many organizations are doubling down on collection, curation, and visualization of information—yet falling short of putting the pieces together. Further compounding the matter are technologies that create and consume their own data, e.g., the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence BOTs, and smart devices.
Still, the implications could change the course of modern commerce. We are beginning to see some promising changes—and some troubling ones. New laws governing the handling and usage of data often lag behind the very technologies that create the data they are intended to regulate. And questions are arising regarding the ethics of combining information using AI and drawing inference from data into a world that is experiencing unprecedented political, social, and economic change.
How do we connect “everything” to “everything” when the nature of “everything” is changing so fast? What is the cost of adopting a fast-follower strategy? What types of skills, capabilities and mindsets do organizations need to rise to capitalize on opportunities while mitigating risks? In this future-focused and provocative conversation, Anthony Scriffignano, SVP/Chief Data Scientist at Dun & Bradstreet and Inderpal Bhandari, Global Chief Data Officer at IBM, will explore these questions and more.
