Electrical engineer and technology executive Douglas Fairbairn discusses the origins and development of the journal, “Lambda: The Magazine of VLSI Design,” which he co-founded with colleague James Rowson. Fairbairn shows how Lambda was critical in disseminating the then-new Mead-Conway VLSI design methodology, a new approach to designing integrated circuits which revolutionized the design and manufacture of electronics products, from handheld calculators to supercomputers.
