"This seminar will examine the state of computer security technology, beginning with where it came from and waht it is (and is not) good for. It will motivate the notions of operating system security enhancements and security kernels, explain the current ideas on how to construct secure operating systems, and review the triumphs and tragedies of past attempts in the area. It will also survey the interactions of nerwork secutiry with operating system security and the interaction of secure operating systems with users and application software. The seminar will provide examples and context using ongoing computer security development projects at Digital.
