Kampe, Bill oral history
William (Bill) R. Kampe II was born in New Jersey. He spent much of his childhood accompanying his parents in military assignments across the US and four years in Germany. He graduated with an MS in Electrical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from the Sloan School of Management in 1968 and served in the US Navy from 1968 to 1971. In 1972 Bill joined the Hewlett Packard Company as a Product Marketing Engineer in Santa Clara, California. He stayed working for HP and spinouts from the mother company for the rest of his working career of 35 years. His roles included Service Engineering Manager, Marketing Manager, Assistant to the COO, and Director of Customer and Quality Operations. Bill played an important role in organizing the formation of Agilent Technologies as a leading, independent electronic instrument technology company. He retired to Pacific Grove, California in 2003 where he served as mayor of the city for two terms.
