The Sun 3/80 was the desktop model of Sun's last Motorola 68k based product line (sun3x architecture with Motorola 68030). It was developed as a continuation of previous desktop machines concurrently with the SPARCstation 1 (sun4c architecture with SPARC processor) which aimed to bring the new RISC technology to the desktop. Mechanically similar, the Sun 3/80 was between four and ten times slower but still sold for 2/3 the price when both machines were introduced in 1989. The SPARCstation 1 was a great success and ended the use of Motorola 68k processors for Sun's desktop machines.
