Texas Instruments Silent 700 terminal

The TI Silent 700 Model 745 Portable Data Terminal was used for sending and receiving text, such as when engaging in interactive computing sessions with a remote machine. The various models of Silent 700 terminals were widely adopted, especially among people needing mobility while computing such as salespeople and students; or where space was at a premium. Based on the Texas Instruments TMS 9900 microprocessor, fitting in a small case, and weighing only 14 pounds, the Model 745 allowed for two way communication between a user and a remote computer at the rate of 30 characters per second via an integral acoustically-coupled modem. A built-in thermal printer provided a hard copy record of interactions.
