Control Data Corporation “Little Character” prototype

The laboratory prototype of Control Data's earliest computer series. This experimental network proved that large-scale computer design could employ the building block principle--using transistor printed circuit cards. Each card contained relatively few basic circuits--but this concept suggested a vast new world of computer technology. Object consists of backplane, with approximately 500 small transistor circuit boards, each about 2-1/2 in square, and core memory stack. Projecting from the front aconsole with switches and lights is in a plexiglass case. ejm 2006-12-07
