Description: Ken Olsen and Harlan Anderson co-founded Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in 1957. The new company took over 8,860 square feet of leased space in a nineteenth-century mill that once produced blankets and uniforms for soldiers who fought in the Civil War. The spacious Mill suited a growing engineering company as space could be renovated at a fraction of the cost of constructing new facilities and the openess of the building satisfied engineers who could modify the space to their liking.
