The UNIVAC name survived repeated changes. Initially referring to a computer, it became the name of Remington Rand’s computer subsidiary when Remington bought Eckert-Mauchly in 1950. After a 1955 merger with Sperry Corporation, it became the UNIVAC division of Sperry Rand.
