English Electric

English Electric was a very large British electrical engineering firm. Their first product, the D.E.U.C.E. computer, was a re-engineered version of the National Physical Laboratories Pilot Ace, first designed by Alan Turing.

English Electric produced a variety of computers for commercial and scientific markets. Some, like the KDF-9, were impressive machines with interesting architectures. EE had exchange agreements with several other large computer firms (e.g., RCA) but market and government pressures eventually forced them to join with other British firms to form International Computers Limited (ICL).
