Prime Computer, Inc.

Prime Computer Corporation was founded by William Poduska and a group of individuals who had worked on the Multics project at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They entered the market with a 32-bit minicomputer aimed at scientific users.

Prime grew rapidly and, when company policy began to shift from scientific to business machines, Poduska and his associates left to form Apollo Computer to produce high end scientific work stations.

Prime absorbed a number of smaller companies and then purchased Computer Vision which, because of the price, left Prime in difficult financial circumstances, eventually resulting in bankruptcy.
