PDP-8-E

The DEC PDP-8 computer system was the machine that introduced the term ‘minicomputer’ to the world. First introduced in 1964, it was affordable, reliable and could support simple timesharing, typically through the attachment of inexpensive Teletype terminals, as shown here. Timesharing, in turn, allowed for efficient interactive programming and greatly encouraged the development of computer science as a discipline, including the writing of many chess programs.
