The Royal McBee Computer Corporation began as a subsidiary of the Royal Typewriter Company. It produced one of the best-regarded, early, inexpensive, computers: the LGP-30. Although hampered by a very slow (in comparison to other machines) drum memory, its price was such that it was affordable for most educational institutions and small industrial firms.

Despite this success, it had difficulty repeating it with subsequent machines and the firm was sold. It passed through the hands of several firms (General Precision, CDC, and others) before it ceased to exist.
