Description:
Claude Shannon, a researcher at MIT and Bell Laboratories, wrote A Mathematical Theory of Communication, which laid the foundations for modern information theory. He also studied how machines could learn and hoped that in developing a computer program to play chess, he might understand more about how to build machines that think. Custom chess machine Belle won the 3rd World Computer Chess Championship, followed by Chaos. The World Computer Chess Championship is held every three years.
