Description
Professor David May was born in Yorkshire County in the north of England. He displayed an early interest in building things and in electronic gadgets in particular. He attended Cambridge University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in computer science. He pursued his passion in electronic gadgetry and artificial intelligence at Warwick University after graduation. In 1979 he joined the government funded startup company, Inmos, where he spent the next 16 years. He led the architecture work and made major contributions to the transputer microprocessor project which was the cornerstone product for Inmos. In 1995 he moved back to academia, joining the faculty of Bristol University, where is now Professor of Computer Science. This oral history focuses primarily on the startup and evolution of Inmos, primarily from a product and engineering perspective.
