This is a color image of the Rancho Arm against a white background. It was developed at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Downey, California. It required six joints in order to simulate human movement. Stanford University acquired the arm in 1963 where it became one of the first artificial limbs to be controlled by a computer.
