A sheet of paper found taped to the object has the typewritten text: "Donor: Massively Parallel Computing Initiative (1989-1992). Description: 1 node (processor-memory pair)of the 128 node BBN TC2000 that was acquired by the MPCI. The goal of this 3 year initiative was to investigate the viability of massively parallel processor (MPP) based machines as future supercomputers at LLNL. Future MPP platforms will offer LLNL programs the boost in performance of 1 to 2 orders of magnitude over what can be obtained using conventional supercomputer hardware."
