Sridhar Vajapey attended the University of Houston. He then went to work at Texas Instruments for 15 years where he focused mainly on the architecture, design, and marketing of TI’s microcontroller family. In this oral history, he describes the evolution of the microcontroller business at TI and explains why it was very successful in the automotive market, taking market share from Motorola and other competitors.In particular he discussed the unique aspects of the TMS370 family, and the steps taken to make it so successful in the automotive marketplace.
After TI, he joined Sun Microsystems which later was bought by Oracle. There in continued to focus on the design and manufacturing of microprocessors, but in this case on the entreprise level SPARC architecture.
