Description
Dr. Jiri Marek was born in the former Czechoslovakia but moved to Germany as a child when his family fled there after the Prague Spring. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Stuttgart and Stanford, and holds a Ph.D. from U. Stuttgart and the Stuttgart Max-Planck Institute. After working in San Jose, California as a postdoc at IBM and an R&D engineer at Hewlett-Packard he joined the Robert Bosch GmbH in Reutlingen, Germany in 1987. There he started and managed the company's MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) activities and grew them into a multi-billion dolar business. He is now the senior vice president of Bosch's North American R&D Center with locations in Palo Alto, Pittsburgh, and Boston.
