Description
In this May 2018 interview conducted by Burt Grad, Herb Schorr discusses his early education and upbringing in the New York area. After earning an electrical engineering degree from City College of New York (CCNY), Schorr went on to an early MA, MSEE, and PhD from Princeton University. Schorr then spent a year at Cambridge University, followed by a year at Columbia University. In 1964, Schorr joined IBM, where he spent 24 years working in product development, marketing, and research, both on the east and west coast. During his tenure at IBM, he headed the AI research team created at the IBM Research Lab to stimulate the use of AI throughout IBM for internal projects. After leaving IBM, Schorr became the head of the University of Southern California’s Information Systems Institute, where he finished his professional career. He also discusses his interest in collecting art which has continued to the present.
