Curator Notes

Nintendo seldom licenses its technologies, which made its 2001 decision to work with electronics giant Panasonic to create the Panasonic Q so fascinating. While competing game consoles could play DVDs, Nintendo's GameCube could not, forcing users to add a separate DVD player. The intergrated Q was only officially released for the Japanese market. High cost led to the Q's failure: it was cheaper to buy a separate console and DVD player than a single Q!
