Description
This transcript from Session 6 of the AI: Expert Systems Pioneer Meeting covers the use of AI and expert systems in some of the larger corporations during the 1980s and 1990s, particularly Franz Inc., IBM, and Schlumberger, the world’s largest oilfield services company. The participants explain how and when these large firms integrated AI and expert systems into their products and services. Other topics briefly discussed include the Common LISP standard, capturing knowledge from domain experts, and how early expert systems technology has morphed and transitioned into foundational business systems, such as enterprise search. The session concludes with an overview of several expert systems applications that show how the technology was used in a variety of industries: a NASA space shuttle refurbishing constraint-based scheduling application, a Ricoh customer service application, and the TurboTax consumer application.
