Description

Malcolm Blanchard is an American computer scientist, programmer, and graphics pioneer. He grew up in Humboldt County, California, and had early exposures to computing, including attending the University of Utah computer graphics group led by professors Dave Evans and Ivan Sutherland. At Utah he took various courses under the supervision of Martin Newell, then left for East Coast computer aided design firm Applicon; a stint at the famous NYIT computer graphics lab; then a move to the West Coast to work at what became Pixar. Spending most of his career there, Blanchard worked on seminal early and important products including EditDroid and RenderMan. Blanchard’s career trajectory parallels the most fertile developments in early computer graphics.
