Description

Early ethernet transceiver with RG-11/U cable.
PARC engineers Bob Metcalfe and Dave Boggs perfected a local area network for interconnecting computers together called Ethernet. Using a transceiver designed by Tat Lam, it ran at 2.94 million bits per second, linking Alto workstations, laser printers, storage servers and inter-network gateways, into what Xerox envisioned as “the Office of the Future.”
