The PDP-8/e was considered a general purpose minicomputer, because it allowed many types of peripheral devices to be connected to it. It is shown here configured for data processing, with conventional teletypewriters. Over 50,000 PDP-8s were sold over the family's lifetime. Several chess programs in the 1970s and '80s were developed using DEC minicomputers like the PDP-8.
