The second session covered a wide range of technology topics. There was focus on the influence that Ivan Sutherland’s Sketchpad and his PhD thesis had on the CAD industry evolution. And there was extensive discussion about the military funding of CAD development because of the need for those solutions for military applications. There was reference to some of the early products from the 1960s and 1970s. The participants talked about the mathematics needed for shape definition and about the relationship between design and drafting. The origin of NURBS and B-Splines was also covered. Finally, Joel Orr joined the meeting and gave his brief personal introduction.
