Description

The focus of this session was intended to be on various application areas in which CAD has proven to be particularly useful. The discussion was very wide-ranging from Volumetric Modeling to a few specific applications and then into a debate about User Interfaces, Virtual Reality and then Augmented Reality and to what extent CAD could be used for these applications. The next topics were Mobile Computing, Generative Design and the advances made by mid-sized CAD companies who weren’t burdened by a large installed base which has to be protected. The session ended with the plans to do a special issue of the IEEE Annals of the History of Computing and finally an assessment of the quality of the Mergers and Acquisitions in the CAD industry and why it was successful for a few companies but failed in many others.
