Broderbund was founded in 1980 by brothers Doug and Gary Carlston in order to market games that Doug had created (Galactic Empire, Galactic Trader and Galactic Revolution). They continued to have success with popular games such as Myst (1993) and Riven (1997) and a wide range of home products such as Print Shop, language tutors, etc.
In 1998 Broderbund was bought by The Learning Company who, a year later, were bought by Mattel, Inc.
