Computer Terminal Corporation (CTC) of San Antonio, Texas, later known as Datapoint, was founded in 1967 and initially made several different types of computer terminals. In the late 1960s, they produced the Datapoint 2200 (consisting of a display, keyboard, and modem and intended for data entry on mainframe computers) that emulated different types of dumb terminals in software.

Initially it had planned to use a microprocessor but manufacturing difficulties meant that it was finally produced from discrete components. The planned microprocessor, after being abandoned by CTC, was eventually produced by Intel as their 8008 chip.

Initially very successful, CTC ran into financial difficulties in the early 1980s, struggled to regain its former glory in the 1990s, and ended in bankruptcy in 2000.
